The Deets on the Mudroom

I've received a couple of questions on my Mudroom/Laundry reno, and I thought I'd answer them all in one post.

Here's the good, the bad and the ugly. I've included a source list at the bottom for some of the other items that I'm sure you were dying to know about. :)

THE UPPER SHELVES/CUBBIES

Absolutely fantastic!!!! I love everything about it! This is exactly what I have been wanting to do to my laundry room. A few questions: Did you build the upper shelves/cubbies and if so did you use plans? What was the brand name of the bench?.... as I think this would work for me too! Thanks.

Answer: Question #1:  I did build the upper shelves/cubbies to fit into the space.  I measured the length between the existing cabinet and the wall, and have Home Depot cut 3 pieces to my measurement (top, middle, bottom).  I then had them cut the vertical pieces for the 5 smaller cubbies - and had them cut an extra piece to be the support on the far left for the middle shelf.  I also attached the bottom shelf to these dividers.

Question #2:  The bottom bench is a kit that I picked up at Rona ( a local hardware store, not sure if it's outside of Canada).  Here's the link.

I did however have to modified it, to add the back rest, because I had water lines running behind the backrest. (This is the ugly part by the way.)

These water shutoffs are also hidden behind this shelving unit.

THE COUNTER

I'm planning on do a laundry room/mud room redo this year, so this is super inspiring! Did you just set the counter top on the washer and dryer? Or did you fasten it to the wall somehow?

Answer:  Hubby put a strip of wood along the back  and right side of the washer/dryer and nailed it to the studs in the wall. The counter sits on top of this strip. (see below)

It is supported in the middle by a piece of wood that is just wedged in there.  Nothing fancy.

Wall Colour

There was actually no question in the comments about this colour, but my friend Sue asked what the colour was when she came to visit over Christmas.  So this one is for you Sue. :)
