How to Clean your oven Naturally

When I last left you, I shared with you "the why" of selling our house.

Now, it's time to start sharing how I got our house ready to sell and make sure that it looked it's very best.

One of the many, many, many things that I did was make sure that our appliances were sparkling clean, inside and out.

Although, we initially excluded our appliances from the listing, we were prepared to use them for bargaining if we needed to.

So I knew I needed to make them worth wanting for the next buyer.

I started with my stove, specifically my oven.

Here are some before pictures.  I think it had been quite a while since I gave it a good cleaning.

Are you ready to be thoroughly disgusted?

Your welcome!  :)
In my defence, this is a hard working appliance in my home, because I cook most meals from scratch.

My oven does have a self cleaning function on it.  I think I used it once. If you have ever used the self cleaning function on yours, you know the smell of burning off burnt-on food.  Ewww the smell is awful.  And I was NOT going to use those stinky bad-for-you chemical cleaners.

Do you know that oven cleaners are one of the most toxic products people use. They contain lye and ammonia, which eat the skin, and then the fumes linger and affect the respiratory system.

Then the next time you turn your oven the smell is intensified.
No way was I going to expose my family and myself to that!

So I went with the safer, better smelling route.

I went to one of my favourite Shaklee Products... Scour Off.

So I smeared the Scour Off on all over the oven and let it sit for a couple hours.

(Sorry I didn't take pictures of the smearing of paste)

Actually, I think I went grocery shopping and when I got home and after putting my groceries away, I realized I still needed to clean the oven.

I did have to put some elbow grease into it.  Let me tell ya, I got a good arm work out! But my hands were not raw once I was done with the scrubbing.

And now to redeem myself of my house keeping skills...  Here are the afters.

Not bad huh?? I brand new looking stove without the harsh dangers of stinky oven cleaner.

So tell me, how often do you clean your oven? And what do you use?
