A Simple Mantle

I don't know why, but this year I had a really hard time decorating my fireplace mantel.

In our house we have a two-sided fireplace, on one side is the dining room and the other side is the Living Room.  On the living room side there is no mantel, so that made my decision easy.  But on the Dining Room side, I have a deep mantel.
I must of come up with 50 different ways to decorate it, but nothing seemed right to me.

I tried some candles, a wreath, the entire Dickens village that we've collected over the years, our collection of nutcrackers. I felt like it was too much.

I want my decorating to be simple this year.  Maybe a little traditional.

So this is what I came up with.

I found a little Christmas tree at Walmart the other day.  It already had a couple of ornaments on it.  I placed it inside a pot that I already had and added some red beads from dollar store.

Then, because Anthony really likes the Dickens village, I added some of the houses and a Coffee shop, and some people playing in the fake snow. A little snow never hurt anyone.

He likes to play with the figurines.

I'm glad I kept it simple. It's enough for me.  You can see here how I decorated my dining room table this year. It's simple too.

What is your Christmas decorating style this year?
