Losing it and Winning! - Week 3

Hi ya!

It's time for my week 3 update, one day late as usual.  This challenge has taken over my life.  It's all I talk about, think about and do these days.  This post will not be very long, as last week was not a good one for me.

I started off the week coming off a loss of 3 lbs and I was feeling pretty good.  Then by Tuesday I woke up not "feeling well".  And the "not feeling well" lasted until Saturday when I walked out of HIIT (high intensity interval training) class after about 15 minutes, because I literally could not run on treadmill or lift a 5 lb weight.  I felt very weak and just wanted to lay down. I'm not sure if just overworked myself or what it was. My throat was sore and my head hurt and I felt very very tired. Of course the "not feeling well" started playing with mind, because after each work out I knew I hadn't given it my 100% and felt guilty. Then I would get on scale and get even more bummed out because the numbers weren't moving. It was an emotional roll coaster.  Thinking back now, I should just rested, for 2 days and let my body heal, but I'm too stubborn.

Here are my measurements as of  Sunday, May 25, 2014:

Weight:  160.2 lbs
Bust: 39 1/2"
Waist: 35"
Butt:  39"

Somehow I still managed to loose 1" off my waist, although my weight only went down 1.6 lbs. I'm assuming I'm gaining muscle and I am changing my body shape

Here are my starting measurements as of Sunday, May 4, 2014:

Weight:  172.3 lbs
Bust: 41 1/2"

Waist: 39 1/4"
Butt:  40

Last week I did HIIT classes Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and 15 minutes on Saturday before I walked out. I also ran on treadmill on Tuesday for 3 miles and rowed 3000m on rowing machine.  I also ran on tread 1.3 mile on Wednesday, a punched the punching bag for 15 minutes on Friday.  But like I said I didn't feel like I gave 100% at each workout like I had the week before.

I'm hoping this week will be better both mentally and physically and hoping for a greater weight loss. I have 9 weeks left!

Losing and Winning - Week 2

Hello! Hello!

I'm all mixed up this week because of the first long weekend of Spring/Summer we just had.
I completely forgot to post Week 2 results of my Biggest Loser Weight Loss Competition.

If you missed the previous weeks here is a quick link to the Beginning and Week 1.

This past week, we were on trainer approved meal plan.  I thought for sure I would not loose any weight at all.  Have you heard of the Week 2 Curse?  It's an actual thing.  I hear it came about after the contestants on the show "the Biggest Loser" would have bad weight loses on Week 2. I googled it after someone in my group was joking about it last week.  So apparently, after having great weight loss in the first week, most people don't lose much and can even gain in the second week.  So basically, your first week you loose all of your water weight and then your body thinks "oh oh, are you trying to starve me?" and holds one to every calorie that enters your body. And then by week 3, if you didn't get discouraged and stop dieting, you start seeing results again.  It was a good thing I took my beginning measurements because I noticed a huge change in the measurements vs. the scale.

I'm still 100% caffeine free, although I have been tempted.  I did have a green tea the other night, to warm up after I was caught in rainstorm while walking the dog.

Like I mentioned last week, I meal planned for my first week back on real food.

shared on Instagram, my meals for last week, I had planned for 5 days of meals.  I have to admit it worked for about two days and then I got bored, I didn't even eat my Wednesday meals because I couldn't take another serving of turkey and broccoli (didn't even bother taking a pic of my meal). For me planning for 2-3 days worth of meals is better than 5 days, I think.

Here is a snapshot of my some of my meals from last week.

I would have to say I'm still sticking to my meal schedule, and it makes eating regularly throughout the day easier.  Definitely recommend it to anyone choosing to eat 5-6 smaller meals daily.

Here are my measurements as of  Sunday, May 18, 2014:

Weight:  161.8 lbs
Bust: 40"
Waist: 36"
Butt:  39"

This week I'm down another 3 lb, which makes is it a total of 10.5 lbs since I started two weeks ago. My inches lost have changed as well, with the waist being the big loss at 3 1/4 inches, since the start. I'm happy with that. I'm glad I took my measurements so that the Week 2 curse didn't get to me.  Some people in my group had weight gain, and they were really bummed out at our group meeting.  I suggested they go home and check their measurements.  We all worked really hard at the gym last week.

Here are my starting measurements as of Sunday, May 4, 2014:

Weight:  172.3 lbs

Bust: 41 1/2"
Waist: 39 1/4"
Butt:  40"

My workouts this week comprised of a total of 6 HIIT classes (Sun, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat), 5 km/3.1miles run on treadmill, 1500 meter workout on rowing machine (for time) and I did 3 personal workouts (picked out by my trainer) after each class and then lots of stretching afterwards.  I took Friday as my rest day, because I had a bunch of errands to run and my body need to recover. I usually walk my dog twice a day for about 20 minutes each time, sometimes more depends on weather and my time.

So I think that is all I'm going to ramble on about this week.  Had you ever heard of the Week 2 Curse?  Do you watch the Biggest Loser show?

Losing it and Winning! - Week 1

Hey all!

Well, I'm done my first week of my Biggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge. Wow... what a week it was. As I promised last week, here is how I did this week.

This past week, we were on a Re-set week , where we had 3 meal replacement smoothies and two bars, plus we were allowed 1 serving of fruit and one of vegetable for 5 days.  Plus we drank alot of water to flush our system. This "re-set" is to eliminate cravings and get your system going. I started my re-set on Monday.  And it was hard at first, but as the week progressed, it got better. By Friday night I was looking forward to "eating" again on Saturday morning.

This time around, I've decided to 100% cut caffeine out of my diet (I sometimes drank 2-3 large cups of coffee a day).  So as of last Sunday (May 4), I'm caffeine free.  At around noon last Sunday my caffeine-withdrawal headache hit me, and it was Thursday before I felt well again.  It was a struggle most days to do my HIIT classes or anything else, while dealing with the headache but I kept on working out. Most days I had to "talk myself" into going to the classes and just get it done!!  Looking back now, I'm glad I did!

Like I told you last week, this is my second time doing this challenge.  One thing I learned last time was, that if I didn't plan out my meals for the week, I was sure to not stick to my meal plan.

That is one of my targets to focus on this time... Plan my meals in advance.

I shared on Instagram, my meals for the next 5 days .  I am only planning my meals until Wednesday, because I don't want to spoil food.  I will do it again on Tuesday night or Wednesday for Thursday - Sunday and then start again on Sunday.

menu planning for weight loss

The other thing, I've done is set a daily eating schedule for myself, so no matter how busy my day gets, I HAVE to stop to eat... or else I'lll forget. If I'm out and about, I bring my meals with me.

This is the schedule: 7-7:30 - breakfast, 10-10:30 - morning snack, 12:30 - 1:00 - lunch, 3- 3:30 - afternoon snack, 6-6:30 - dinner, 9- evening snack.  I go to bed at 10, so I need to cut my last "meal" about an hour before bed, for digestion.

Here are my measurements as of  Sunday, May 11, 2014:

Weight:  164.8 lbs
Bust: 41 1/2"
Waist: 38"
Butt:  40"

My weight is substantially down this week  - 7.5 lbs (4.4%).  I think, it's a good start.
(This weight loss competition is based on % loss of original starting weight.)

My workouts this week comprised of a total of 5 HIIT classes (Sun-Sat), 5 km/3.1miles run on treadmill, and one day of a personal workout picked out by my trainer (45 minutes, and then lots of stretching afterwards.  I took Tuesday as my rest day, because I headache was pretty intense, but ended up walking my dog for 45 minutes while Haley was in Baseball practice. I usually walk my dog twice a day for about 20 minutes each time.

Funny story, on Friday I was lifting a barbell that I thought was "heavy enough for me" while doing a personal workout that my trainer had given me.  She had left me to do "my thing", to go talk to someone that had walked in the gym.  When she came back to check on me, she says "ummm... no those weights are too low for you". I said "no their perfect". She brought over another barbell, that made my heart stop when I saw it.  I didn't know where to cry or run for the hills.  In the end she worked with on proper positioning and I was able to do a "clean and jerk" and lift 65 pound barbell... way above my head.  I did twice.  I felt like a champion.

I'm looking forward to this next week, as I have normal food to eat again. berries... yumm. I have 5 classes on my schedule for the week, plus a couple personal workouts planned as well.  With baseball starting up for my two younger kiddos it's going to be a tough week.  My hubby is still working long insane hours and can't help with kids right now (which I'm ok with).  I do ALL my workouts when kids are in school.

Thanks for all the kind comments last week, I appreciate the support.

Summer Bucket List & Shutterfly Giveaway - #KFCBucketList

Here in Southwestern Ontario, our summers are so short.  We try to soak in every second of the 2 months that the kids have off from school.  There are many memories are made between playing baseball and soccer games, tennis matches, playing with friends, riding our bikes and just plain lounging around and soaking up with warm sun. I remember when my girls were little and we lived literally across the street from the Toronto Zoo and we used to go there just about daily, so that they could visit "their fur friends" and play in splash pad.

This year I decided to put together a Summer Bucket List to keep us going through out the summer.

I thought of couple of ways of displaying our list, but in the end Good will won out and I found my perfect display!

Here is how I did it...

I picked up this plain tray with wood frame on it from Goodwill for $3.00. I taped it all up and took it outside and spray painted the white part with Chalkboard paint. Did you  follow that? Complicated, I know.

I decided not to touch the wood.  At first I thought of staining it or painting it and then I decided to keep it "au natural".  I like it better that way (for now anyways).

I used a thick- tipped Chalk pen to write on it. At first I wrote some random stuff on it to practice, and then I wet a cloth and wiped it off and  started again. I gave it a chalkboard look. ;)

I have to laugh... my chalk writing needs some a lot of improvement! Wow. #itrieddontlaugh

I asked the kids (and hubby) for 5 things they wanted to make sure they did this summer.

Funny part was that most of our things overlapped.  For example, Hubby wrote down: golfing, family bike ride, beach and Anthony had those three exact things on his list too!

Here were some other ideas that were thrown at me:
  • Tropical Island vacation (yes!!)
  • Fly a kite
  • Lemonade stand
  • Picnic at the park
  • Go to zoo
  • Go to farm to pick berries
  • read lots of books
  • have a BBQ party for our friends
  • Go to a pool
  • go to drive-in movies
  • make smores in backyard.
My own personal list this summer is:

- Finish my weight loss Challenge and WIN IT!
- Run 10km without stopping (to pick up a lung off of gravel)
- Add privacy to backyard
- Read 5 books! (the tropical island vacation should help with this one. lol)
-  Family bike ride

It will be fun to go on a Tropical Island vacation. Hubby haven't done that in 11 years, and we've never taken the kids. We're talking. It's a start.

It will be fun to see how many of those items we can all check off our list this summer.

KFC has been a part of my summer memories for a long time.  I remember as a child picnicking at a local park with my family, uncles, aunts and cousins and a KFC bucket always making it on to the picnic table every time. Oh those childhood memories!

Losing it and Winning!

Hey all!

I'm going to get a little personal on here today.

Last Fall, a very good friend of mine passed away due to complications after a bladder surgery.  She was having surgery because two years earlier while training for a bike race, she went over her handlebars and severed her spinal cord, becoming paralyzed from the shoulders down.  Up until that point, she had lived a very active life and had a very strong, healthy heart and lungs. This is what kept her alive for two years,  along with her sheer determination and pure stubbornness.

Why am I telling you this? My friend Tracy's death, motivated me to change my life and deal with my health.  I've let too many things slide over the years, while I raised my kids. After Tracy passed, I realized that my young kids, will one day be adults and they might still want a healthy mom around, and I needed to make some changes. I need to get my body back, and I need it to be strong.

Last summer a friend of mine, mentioned that she had participated in a local "biggest loser" type of challenge at a gym near our home. So, a few days after Tracy's funeral last November, I mustered up the courage and went in and spoke to one of the trainers about the program.  I made up my mind right there and then and put a deposit down for the next 3 month challenge which was to start this past January.

Quarterly Update

Back in December I did a 2013 project re-cap and then in January, I did a top 5 pins of December and then... nothing.  So, because I like to readers other bloggers monthly re-cap's I thought I'd share what has been going on around here. You know, in case you are new or missed something. ;)

- – - – - – - – - – - -- – - – - – -

- – - – - – - – - – - -- – - – - – -

I started off the month with a public service announcement. That was a scary day for us.  And I also let you in on my inspiration for House Goals for 2014, which we are making great progress on already!

I got all craft and made a Pottery Barn Inspired Tic Tac toe game.  My little guy started reading chapter books and so I made him his own bookmark.

I made some progress in two of our bedrooms by painting my little guys room and I also banished Kermit the Frog from our bedroom. The colours are so much more conducive for relaxing now.

I organized underneath powder room sink and shared with you how I did it. And then I showed you how I organized my linen closet.  By the way,  if you were to sneak a peek in those two spaces, you would see that they still look the same.

With cold and flu season, I shared my cure-all for sore throats and coughs! Seriously people this stuff should be patented, it works. I also shared my love of asparagus!

- – - – - – - – - – - -- – - – - – -

In February,  I talked about how to keep your kids busy during March Break and shared our own Family Day Getaway.  I also helped Anthony with some Valentine's Day cards.

Of course, I always have food on my mind... I made Banana Chocolate Chip cookies, chocolate covered strawberries and whipped up some Double apple Cake. Jovi, the dog, was pleased with how the Double Apple Cake turned out too.  Darned dog.

Phase 1 of our kitchen renovation was also completed and then I shared my plans for phase 2.  Which is just about done and then I'll share with you.  Probably next week.  Maybe.

More Food!  Berry Yogurt Parfait, Healthy Breakfast Oatmeal Muffins, Italian Wedding Soup, Roasted Asparagus with Balsamic Vinegar and Feta, and Golden Banana Pancakes. And speaking of pancakes, we also visited a Maple Sugar shack for March Break and had yummy pancakes and sweet Maple syrup. I'm just drooling thinking about it.

Clockwise from Top left 1/2/3/4/5

My Feature friday series that I started in the last week of February continued. I interview some awesome bloggers and hit them with my best Oprah-type of questions.

In March I also got crafty and turned a placemat into a pillow and i got all techy and showed you how to add your own signature to your posts.

- – - – - – - – - – - -- – - – - – -

- – - – - – - – - – - -- – - – - – -

This month my oven died, but I was still able to use my stove-top so I shared my recipe for a simple Asparagus Soup.  Have I mention I love asparagus?

But then I got my act together and purchased a stove and then roasted some veggies in the oven, including asparagus.

I shared my new office space and guest posted at the Happy Housie with the details.

I also finally made a decision on our basement half wall after taking months and months to make up my mind, and I'm quite happy with it.

And of course my Feature Friday series continued with a Tiny Sidekick, One Krieger Chick  and  a Prudent Life.

And last but not least I had the opportunity to review Midtown Men and I guest posted on a Prudent Life where I got all techy again.

- – - – - – - – - – - -- – - – - – -

Phew... that was quite the quarterly update.  Did you get all that?  Hopefully next time it will be a monthly update instead of 4 months worth. ;)
